The Perfect Every-Season Shade – butter London’s Royal Navy

I’m feeling very antsy and at odds today and I’m not entirely sure why.  I think partly it’s because I work tomorrow and Thursday night at Clinique so those two evenings are shot, and I have a late doctor’s appointment Wednesday which means I won’t get home till super-late as well.  So essentially my week is over, good night 😦

Anyway!  The best kind of posts for when you can’t sit still is a nail polish post – you can make ’em quick and dirty (unless you tend to be chatty like I am).  Today I have for you a GORGEOUS polish which I sadly couldn’t capture in it’s full glory (but trust me – its effing AMAZING): butter London’s Royal Navy.

With flash, you can see how seriously blue this polish can be – however, when worn, it’s rather dark and the blue tones are quite elusive.  It looks more like the shot below, like the Atlantic Ocean – super dark blue-black with just a hint of it’s true colors around the edges:

butter London Royal Navy (6)For those of you who don’t live near the Atlantic Ocean, it seriously looks just like this – the Pacific Ocean, alternatively, is like this crazy aquamarine! – totally shocked me when I went to New Zealand.

I tried and I tried and I TRIED to get the polish to photograph as beautifully as it looks when worn, but to no avail.  Sunlight didn’t bring it out; actually, when it looks it’s most stunning is in diffused, indirect, warm lighting – which is a bitch to photograph in.  Needless to say, I’m not happy….but I tried my best!

The second shot is where I captured its beauty most, but the polish is so damn shiny that it kept reflecting off the flash (argh!).  But that is essentially how it looks at it’s most entrancing.

This last shot makes it almost look like a jelly, but it’s not.  Two coats to full opaqueness, although it’s nearly done in one.  Applies easily with a good flow to the formula, though because of it’s darkness you do need to be a bit more careful than usual with application.

I love this polish with all my heart!  These kinds of super-dark shades work best for me, rather than mid-tones or more muted/dusty ones.  I also like ’em dark like this because I feel like it transcends seasons – this would be suitable no matter what the weather or situation, because it’s essentially a neutral…..a BAD-ASS neutral, too 😛

Any polishes you fallen head over heels for lately?

It looks beautiful!I did think it looked jelly-ish.My problem with blues is the removal, did this one stain?

    • #2 by Latoya on January 29, 2013 - 7:48 am

Hi Linda! It actually didn’t stain my nails at all! It left a slight stain on dry areas of my cuticles, but barely noticeable. I was quite impressed 🙂

I love dark shades, too! A navy cream is something I don’t have…hmmm! I have Dior Tuxedo for my navy needs – dark, metallic blue. So sexy.

Yeah, I confess I’ve given that shade the eyeball many times, Larie! Ya just can’t beat a sexy, mysterious shade like navy 😉

Beautiful! I love blue polish but I don’t like the “hey I got intimate with a Smurf” staining that happens so often.

I just got my A-England order and I am soooo excited.

    • #8 by Latoya on January 29, 2013 - 7:51 am

Oooh what shades did you order, Sarah??

You’ll be pleased to know this one did not stain! So get on it, girl! 🙂

Good to know. I do like Butter London’s branding and the names are adorable.

I bought a-england’s Tess d’Urbervilles, Princess Sabra, and Bridal Veil. I’m wearing Tess right now, and the colour is gorgeous but application was a disaster. The brush was all wonky and uneven. Colour’s worth it, though.

You know, I’ve had crappy brushes on a few of my a-England polishes, too Sarah. It didn’t seriously affect application, but made it trickier. I already have Princess Sabra – so lovely! – and just got Tess too, but haven’t worn it yet. I’m interested to see if my brush is wonky too…

I love this shade. I still haven’t tried any polishes from Butter London, but I really want to 🙂

Oh, you really should!! They’re quite lovely – you won’t be disappointed!! 🙂

Sorry to hear you’re feeling antsy and at odds today, but hey the weekend’s gotta get here eventually 🙂 That’s what I’m telling my antsy and at odds self (double espresso, no sleep, and looking forward to another all nighter). ohh that second shot is simply gorgeous. I rarely wear colors like these, should probably start doing that more often though because you make it look so good. Polishes I’ve fallen for lately….uhhh can’t think of any right now. Some idiot set the alarm off and it’s been going for the past hour, REALLY GUYS.

    Lol, oh photography woes!

I totally know what you mean by “feeling at odds”… I am feeling a bout of ennui right now myself… But if your week doesn’t get better, I hope it goes by quickly, at the very least.

Love a classic navy blue polish. 🙂 For me, it looks classier than red. This one looks similar to Chanel’s Blue Satin!

This is a beauty! I love a deep blue, this one is sort of perfection!

It is a bad-ass neutral! I love it! I heart navy ANYTHING. Putting this on the list!

Yea, navy anything is pretty sweet, true ’nuff Tracy! This polish in particular hits the sweet spot 🙂

Love this shade! Was tempted to pick it up but I probably already have a navy blue.

Re: photos – I realize that we in Canadia need to take as many pics during summer and just forget about good photography during winter. WINTER IS A BITCH.

    • #19 by Latoya on February 5, 2013 - 8:02 am

Hahaha well said, Liz. Though – I’ve actually had a handful of good, sunny days to work with, so it’s not been that bad. The issue with this polish is that sunlight doesn’t bring out its beauty, which isn’t usually the case.

That being said – I’m ready for summer soon 🙂

...And what do you have to say about all this?? Dish! :)
